Sports Premium

PE FUNDING

The Sports Premium is Government additional funding to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding, provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

At St Matthew's, we are dedicated to promoting healthy, active lifestyles and ensuring that every child develops a lifelong love of physical activity. The Primary PE and Sport Premium provides additional funding to improve the quality of physical education (PE), sport and physical activity for all pupils.

We use this funding to enhance provision, broaden opportunities and build staff confidence so that children benefit from high-quality teaching and experiences. Our aim is to support all pupils to develop their physical skills, teamwork, resilience and enjoyment of being active.

Our funding is used to:

  • Improve the quality of teaching in PE through staff training and support
  • Provide a wider range of sports and physical activities across all year groups
  • Provide all of our pupils with a 2nd year of swimming lessons
  • Increase participation in competitive sport
  • Promote active playtimes and healthy lifestyles
  • Ensure all pupils, regardless of background, can take part in physical activity and school sport

We regularly review our provision and evaluate the impact of spending to ensure it leads to sustainable improvements and increased participation.
