Welcome to St. Matthew’s CE Primary school.
Our school is situated in South Street in Ponders End, within the parish of St. Matthew’s. We also have an annex on Dyson's Road in Edmonton for another three classes. We are home to 290 happy children, who are at the forefront of all the things we do in the school.
The main school is on a small but attractive and well-maintained site. Its original school hall dates back to 1838 but the rest of the building has been considerably modernised and expanded since then. The school has close links with the Parish Church of Saint Matthew, which lies adjacent to the school. The school is well regarded in the community as a close knit family school where children are happy and make good progress. The school has a strong Christian character and very strong links with the church.
We also offer a wide range of clubs for children in all year groups. These include a range of sports clubs, as well as a choir, arts and crafts, homework club and many more.
We also have a breakfast club and an after school club. For more information about these, and for information on applying for a place at our school, please contact the school office.

At St. Matthew's we offer our children the best possible opportunities to excel in the curriculum, while encouraging participation in a range of clubs and extra-curricular activities. As a result our children are happy and actively engaged. Extra-curricular activities include the following: football, netball, cricket, gymnastics, athletics, tag rugby, arts and crafts, healthy eating cooking club, choir etc.
St Matthew’s is a Voluntary Aided Church of England School. This means that it is a part of the Christian Family of the Diocese of London, and receives support and resources from the London Diocesan Board of Schools, in addition to the support and resources that it receives, like every other school in the Borough, from the Local Education Authority.
Our parents are an integral part of the close-knit community at St Matthews and are very supportive of each other and of all the activities, events and initiatives in the school. The good relationships throughout the school, gives St. Matthews a real sense of community
